This year’s Youth Music Awards Final Concert, the 31st, will feature 12 young soloists aged 13 to 18 years, performing with a wide variety of instruments and styles – something for everyone!
Entrants must live or attend school in the Sutherland Shire or St George areas. The Youth Music Awards focus on the performance experience gained rather than the competition aspect… although you can’t ignore a 1st Prize of $1000!
The evening will start with prize announcements for the Young Composer sections with two compositions themed around “The Floods” and “The Seasons”.
The Youth Music Awards was started by Sutherland Shire Council in 1991 and since 2001 has been run by a committee of volunteers from Sutherland Music Club. Total cash prizes (Performance and Composition) to be awarded at the Finals Concert is over $5000.
“Had I not been present to undertake some official duties, I would’ve enjoyed being there in my own right and listening to all that brilliant local talent taking their first steps towards great musical futures.” (2022 YMA Finals Concert) Neil Armfield AO, director of theatre, opera & film, and recent Joint Artistic Director, Adelaide Festival.
