This exciting classical concert, the second in Sutherland Music Club’s 2024 series, features three outstanding musicians – Paul Cheung (piano), Tim Yu (violin) and Rachel Siu (cello) – performing piano trios by Mozart and Ravel, with some Chopin, Liszt and Ravel piano solos from Paul.
Paul Cheung (piano)
Paul has performed solo, concerto, chamber and orchestral repertoire across Australasia, Europe, and South America. He won the 2023 Geoffrey Parsons award, the inaugural David Miller award, and prizes at the Australian National Piano Award 2022. Paul is a casual staff member with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, an associate artist for the Rising Stars program, and an official accompanist for the Sydney Eisteddfod. Regular collaborative artists include musicians from the ACO, SSO, MSO, and European orchestras.
Rachel Siu (cello)
Described as “fearless” by Yo-Yo Ma in an interview with South China Morning Post, Australian-born Rachel Siu has been making her mark all around the world. Rachel received the Gold Medal prize at the VIII David Popper International Cello Competition in Hungary, and was winner of The Juilliard School concerto competition in 2017. Rachel is on the faculty at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is a part of Australia’s own renowned Streeton Trio.
Tim Yu (violin)
Tim won the 2018 Gisborne International Music Competition and 2021 Kendall National Violin Competition. Having just completed 2 years as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellow and Australian Chamber Orchestra Emerging Artist in 2020 and 2021, Tim currently performs as a casual violinist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Opera Australia.
