Don’t miss this very special performance presented by The Pavilion and the Sutherland Shire Choral Society.
The featured Soprano will be Penelope Mills, lauded for her performances with renowned conductors and orchestras around Australia and internationally. Joining her will be soloists Michael Burden, Louis Hurley and Hayden Barrington.
Music Director Jodie Spooner-Ryan will conduct the choir and 18-piece orchestra on this significant occasion as the Choral Society celebrates its 50-year anniversary.
Handel was already established in London as a renowned composer when he was given the Scripture texts by librettist Charles Jennens. Working at a furious pace, Handel set the texts to music in just three weeks and the oratorio “Messiah” was born, premiering in Dublin during the Easter season to great acclaim. “Messiah” continues to be a favourite with audiences today.
